South Sudan is a land crossed by great rivers, yet clean water stays out of reach for most of its people. According to UNICEF, fifty-nine per cent of the population, around thirteen million people, lacks access to safe water, and only one in ten has access to improved sanitation. Families are left to drink whatever they can find, and cholera and diarrhoea remain among the leading causes of death in children.
We built Jamata Drilling because that should not be anyone's reality. The few companies serving this need were mostly foreign owned and often out of reach for ordinary families. We are South Sudanese, we live where we work, and we believe clean water is not a luxury. It is the start of health, of learning, and of a life lived with dignity.
Jamata Drilling and Water Supply began with a simple conviction, that the people of South Sudan should never have to choose between thirst and unsafe water. We registered the company in October 2020 and spent our early years learning the trade alongside trusted partners, until we were able to buy our own equipment and stand on our own feet.
On 2 June 2022 we drilled our first borehole in Longe West, Juba, and weeks later we gathered the team to launch the company we had imagined for so long. Today twenty-seven colleagues, many of them serving far out in the field, carry that promise to schools and communities across the country. We put service before profit, because giving water is giving life, and we would be honoured to bring it to yours.
